BWHA CODE OF CONDUCT

The BHWA believes that fun and safety should come first. Winning is not the most important consideration. BWHA players are asked to act in accordance with this belief.

 

On the ice

•  Have a positive attitude on and off the ice during BWHA functions.

•  Demonstrate teamwork and sportsmanship.

•  Be generous with praise, not critical of your teammates.

•  Work to improve your skills and help your teammates improve their skills.

 

As a BWHA representative player

•  Learn the rules as defined by USA Hockey and play by them during practice, scrimmage, and games.

•  Be respectful of your coaches, teammates, opponents and the officials. Do not argue with an official’s decision during scrimmages and games.

•  All players and coaches are expected to refrain from spreading disruptive gossip and misinformation either intentionally or unintentionally that is aimed at an individual of BWHA or the organization as a whole.

•  Complaints about teammates or coaches need to be addressed with the team captain.

•  Coaches may not disparage a player or team or other coach in BWHA, negative attitudes and abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

•  Outbursts happen, but repeated abusive language and/or behavior will not be tolerated.


Practices

•  During practice, refrain from talking to other players while the coach is talking.

•  During practice, if you are familiar with a drill, please move to the front of the line to help demonstrate it to other players.

•  If you are unfamiliar with a drill, please move to the back of the line to watch before it is your turn. If you are still uncomfortable with the drill, please ask a coach.

•  Be on time for practices. If you arrive late, do not disrupt the flow of practice. Games

•  Each team will pick a standard arrival time for practices and games to accommodate chalk talk, dressing, etc.

•  Be courteous and thoughtful of your teammates’ ice time. Skate short, hard shifts.

•  Consumption of alcoholic beverages is unacceptable prior to practices, scrimmages, and games due to safety considerations for both yourself and other players.

•  Please refrain from using the BWHA email distribution list for personal communication not related to hockey. Contact the BWHA President for any exceptions.

Failure to adhere to the BWHA Player’s Code of Conduct, can result in dismissal from the team.
