Every year, Boise Women's Hockey Association contributes a free skating event to numerous Girl Scout troups in our area to promote women's sports and team camaraderie. We donate this event to give girls of various ages the opportunity to learn to skate with members of BWHA, while also helping them earn a skating badge that encourages athletics in their own organization. This event inspires the girls to view sports such as ice hockey in a way that breaks traditional stereotypes about women in athletics and also shows the girls how women of all abilities and ages can come together in an organization such as BWHA and build an inspiring foundation that is based on team membership and the celebration of athletic ability. BWHA is dedicated to giving girls and women of our area the chance to advance in the growing sport of women's hockey, and we dedicate our time and influence towards expanding these concepts with events such as the Girl Scout Skate.
The girl scouts love this opportunity to skate and many of them participate each year, becoming familiar with the members of our group. Although there are several girls who openly admit that they don't want to grow up to play hockey and they only want to be a "normal ice skater" it is an encouraging and inspiring event for the girls as well as the members of BWHA!
